FAR, far away to the
East, in the midst of the Great Sea there is an island called the Mountain of
Flowers and Fruits. And on this mountain there is a high rock. Now this rock, from the very
beginning of the world, had absorbed all the hidden seed power of heaven and
earth and sun and moon, which endowed it with supernatural creative gifts. One
day the rock burst, and out came an egg of stone. And out of this stone egg a
stone ape was hatched by magic power. The stone apes name was Harambe. Over
the next few years he grew larger and larger until he was at last grown to full
size.
As Harambe grew older and older he
often contemplated what his legacy might be and how people might talk about him
years from now. This idea consumed him so much that he became obsessed with the
idea of immortality, so that he would always be around to be remembered. To
gain this immortality he traveled to the sacred Mountain of the Matrix in
search of the monk Morpheus. He traveled many days and nights and at last
reached Morpheus’ home.
Harambe found Morpheus and told him of
his great dilemma, Morpheus then pulled out 2 pills: a red one and a blue one.
He explained that Harambe had the choice of taking one of the pills, each one
bringing him a different lifestyle. The red pill would grant Harambe the eternal
life that he so desperately sought, but he would not live the rest of his days
as a average monkey not as a unique and powerful stone monkey. The blue pill on
the other hand would give Harambe extra magical powers beyond his imagination,
but he would only live to be 100 and would die a shameful death. Harambe being
only at age 20 at the time decided that he would take the extra magical powers
and would surely be able to create a great legacy in 80 years.
Harambe took the blue pill from
Morpheus and swallowed it down, he instantly felt the magical properties of the
pill and decided to test out his new powers. He found out that the pill gave
him the ability to turn into any form of animal that he wanted, he was able to
fly, he was stronger and smarter than before, and was practically a god. All
this power instantly went to Harambes head. He started doing things that he
thought would leave him a great legacy such as: conquering nearby lands just to
expand his territory, picking fights with gods, and claiming himself as the
chosen one.
The great lord of the Heavens Buddha
was watching all of Harambe’s childish acts take place and he had seen quite
enough. Buddha appeared before Harambe and told him that he must stop these
immature actions or he would take all his power away. Harambe being arrogant
decide that instead of stopping he would make a deal with Buddha to gain all
his magical powers.
The deal was simple if Harambe won then
Buddha would have to relinquish all of his powers to Harambe. But if Buddha won
then Harambe would lose all of his powers and Harambe would live out the
remainder of his days at the local zoo. The competition they chose to do was an
intense game of tic tac toe. After many tie games, Harambe finally made a mistake
and Buddha took advantage and won. Harambe was mortified and begged Buddha to
give him another chance, but Buddha refused and instantly snapped his finger
and Harambe lost all his power. Buddha snapped his finger again and Harambe
found himself in a gorilla exhibit at the zoo.
Harambe spent the next few years in
misery in the gorilla exhibit swinging from tires and eating bananas. Harambe
was still obsessed with idea of leaving a legacy and had no idea how he was
going to leave one since he was stuck at this stupid cage. He was in deep
thought when suddenly a child leaned too far over the railing to the exhibit
and fell in. At last Harambe thought, I could save this kid and leave a great
legacy. Harambe quickly ran over to the kid and was about to pick him up to
save him when he heard a loud pop and felt a sharp pain through his chest.
Harambe had been shot, and within a few minutes he was dead. Harambe may not be
remember for what he wanted, but we will always remember him as the gorilla
that was wrongly shot trying to do the right thing.
Authors Note: For this story I decided to take the original story of the monkey king and turned the main protagonist into Haramabe and thought it would be a fun idea to tell the story of the rise and fall of the most famous gorilla to ever walk this earth.

Hey Ryan!
ReplyDeleteI think it’s hilarious that you decided to change the monkey king into Harambe. The idea of merging something from popular culture with an older story adds a nice contrast. Also, most of this story was relatively humorous, and I was genuinely sad when Harambe tried redeeming himself only to be killed. You did a great job with this!
Hey Ryan,
ReplyDeleteYour idea to change the monkey king into Harambe was so funny and engaging to read. I could not stop laughing throughout because of the great pop culture reference you chose. What I appreciated most about the change though was that it was not you trying to squeeze in the reference for a small joke but the story of Harambe and the Monkey king actually do have some links so the writing felt natural. Thanks for the laugh and the great read!
