Reading Notes B: Grimm
For this set of reading notes I will mainly be focusing on the story of Snow White and Rose Red. I had never heard of this version of Snow White, only the disney version but I liked this one a lot. I liked the plot twist at the end where the bear turned out to be a cursed prince. You could probably make a good back story on the princes version of the story and how he became cursed in the first place. Or a after story about how the other dwarves planned on getting revenge on the prince for the death of their fallen comrade.
Reading Notes A: Grimm
For this set of reading notes I plan on focusing on the story of hansel and grethel. Something that could be pretty cool would be to switch the roles of hansel and grethel and the parents. Since the kids overheard the parents talking about leaving them in the forest, the kids take action and leave the parents in the forest for dead. Or maybe add some background on the witch that tries to eat them. Maybe she had some hardship in her life that made her want to eat children, who knows. Maybe she lost children of her own or cooked her own children, but it would be nice to add some background to why some of these villains in these stories do what they do.

The beast in the cave: Reading notes
For these reading I read the beast in the cave by HP Lovecraft. This reading tells the story of a man lost in a cave while on a hiking tour. He is left alone and is certain he will die of starvation. At a last desperate effort to get help from the tour guide he starts yelling for help. This attracts a beast that the man can only hear getting closer but cant see it. As it gets closer the man throws a big stone at it and seems to wound it, he then runs away and luckily finds the guide. They then back track and go try to find out what the creature was. Upon finding and observing the injured creature they make the shocking realization that this creature is or at one time was a man.
This story could spark for a interesting storytelling opportunity. The story could feature the creature and his background and how he got to the cave.

Reading Notes A&B: Inferno
For my reading this week I want to focus on Dantes Inferno. This is a story that I am very familiar with and find incredibly interesting. The main thing I want to do for it is change up the levels of hell and change up the examples that are given. Maybe have the levels be more focused on things: 7 levels of college hell, levels of social media hell, etc. I think I want to come of with a new guide for Dante, and maybe even change the main character to someone else as well. I plan on taking this week to do a planning post and then doing my story next week. I plan on being way more extensive with my plan than my notes.

Reading Notes B: English Tales
Out of the second set of stories that I read, the only one that I might use for storytelling would be the Mr. Fox story. This story is basically about a girl finding out that her fiance is a murderer, and has to prove that he is so she doesnt have to marry him. Mr. Fox is very mysterious, kinda reminds me of Disturbia or the Stepfather.

Reading Notes A: English Tales
The main stories from the English Tales that I will be focusing on will be the master and his pupil, the 3 little bigs, and Binnorie. I plan on trying to incorporate some of these together if possible. Maybe the master and his pupil/ 3 little pigs could be put together. Maybe the pupil accidentally opens the magic spell book turning them into pigs and being hunted by the wolf. The only way to free the spell is to kill the wolf.

Reading Notes A&B: Beowulf
Reading Notes A:
I decided to throw the notes together because I plan on predominently talking about the second half of the Beowulf Story. Though the first half is good and important, the second half is where most of the action happens and is the easiest to write about and change.
Reading Notes B:
Change the description of Grendel, make it to where the people of Herot have been haunted by Grendel for 12 years but no one has ever seen him because he would cast deep sleeping spells on people. Make it more of a myth and a curse, but Grendel is a puny creature that would be defenseless if his spells didnt work. But when Beowulf either kills Grendel/sends him back to his mom, she gets pissed and starts doing some big attacks. Grendel the giant, Grendel the terrible, the scurge of the night- some of the myths they say about grendel. When Beowulf cuts off the hand of Grendel, the spell stops and the townspeople see Grendel for what he really is and arent scared anymore till his mother comes back. Grendel only kills because hes scared of his mom, mom is scared of the dragon who needs gold. Beowulf becomes king for killing grendel and his mom, the dragon comes to get his revenge on Beowulf. The dragon was Smaug on steroids, compare to how to train your dragon. Get ideas from movie too.

Reading Notes B: Blackfoot
The main stories that I enjoyed from this were the Kut-O-Yis stories. Kutoyis was a man that was born from the blood of the buffalo, that later turned out to be a great hero. Kutoyis fought many monsters and this stories basically is the native american version of the Odyssey. Although I enjoyed this epic a lot, I'm going to focus my storytelling on the "Wolf Man" for this week.

Reading A: Blackfoot
The main story that I focused on from this section of readings was the "Wolf Man." The wives reasons for trying to kill the husband don't make a lot of sense so Im going to try to change that. They wanted to be free from the husband so that they could live there lives how they want, maybe arranged marriage got them together in the first place. Different way of trying to kill him, and come up with an actual punishment for the wives at the end.

Reading notes B: Hero Tales
I mainly focused on the story of the jealous father for this reading. This reading reminded me a lot of the movie the Mummy. Because the pharaohs right hand man Imhotep has relations with the pharaohs wife and the pharaoh figures this out because he notices marks on her hand that must be from him. Imhotep then kills the pharaoh and flees but the pharaohs guards basically make it their duty to track down Imhotep and make his life miserable. And all Imhotep is trying to do is get back to is the pharaohs wife which hes in love with. So a lot of similarities in this and I think I could write about this fairly well but I think im going to stick with writing about the story i focused on before which was the "jealous nephew."

Reading Notes A: Hero Tales
I predominantly focused on the story of the jealous uncle. This story reminded me a lot of the book series Series of Unfortunate Events. A evil relative constantly trying to make a childs life miserable for a selfish reason. I think I want to focus on why the Uncle wants to kill every boy that is born, and what caused him to act like this. I will more than likely keep a lot of the traps the same but put them in better words so its easier to understand. I do really like this story thought, I feel like there are many things I can change to make it better but I like the premise of it.

Reading Notes B: The monkey king
Make a pop culture person the lord of the heavens, liam
neeson maybe
Have him make a different kind of wager with budha
Make a matrix reference with stone ape taking the pill to
give him his powers

Reading Notes A: The monkey King
Change the birth of the monkey king
Make it like pinnochio
Reminds me of kung fu panda
Have the monkey king face a different enemy
Make a new funny weapon for the monkey
Have him go to the nether world for a different reason

Reading Notes B: Japanese Mythology
Change the princess character into a pop culture reference along with Yamato. He gets tired of her because she is too naggy and clingy, so he longs for the siren (use different person/thing). Have Yamato team up with Hercules to get the golden apple and do some of the labors. Have him fight Smaug the dragon/grindles mother from Beowulf.

Japanese Mythology- Reading Notes A
Compare the hero Yamato to Hercules, make references to this
but change up some of the details. Change up some of the labors that he must
face and overcome. Add the Serpent of Koshi story to it, compare it to the
Lernaen Hydra.
